Before we scan each slide, we carefully clean it using professional film cleaner solution. This process removes dust, lint, fingerprints, and surface dirt that has accumulated over the years.

What Cleaning Cannot Fix

It's important to understand that professional cleaning removes surface contamination only. Some types of damage go deeper than the surface and cannot be corrected by cleaning:

Cleaning Cannot Repair:

  • Mold and mildew damage - These eat into the emulsion layer of the film itself, causing permanent discoloration and loss of detail
  • Scratches on the film - Physical damage to the emulsion cannot be removed by cleaning
  • Fading and color shift - Chemical degradation of the film dyes over time (our color correction helps, but cleaning alone won't fix this)
  • Warped or bent slides - Physical deformation from heat or improper storage
  • Water damage stains - Moisture that has penetrated the emulsion layer

While we can't repair these types of damage, we will still scan and enhance these slides to get the best possible result. Our overall color correction process can often improve the appearance of faded or color-shifted images.
